What Drax said.
If people exploit a game mechanic so that those they kill have no chance whatsoever, then the dead people have every right to complain.
Give them at least some chance, even if it's slim.
Heck give them an option to pay...even if it's a big amount. At least they then have an option.
You'll jsut drive new players away if they feel they didn't have any chance whatsoever....heck you'll drive established players away when they run out of cash for ships and clones.
But I guess that won't bother you too much cos YOU are having fun....and hey...if the game dies a slow death from people leaving, well you can always go ruin another game.
It's not about carebears versus pirates.
Everyone playing this game falls into the grey area between these 2 extremes.
It's about making the game fun for as many people as possible....it's that simple.
Yes space is dangerous, and yes PvP conflict is fun.
But it's only fun if there's a challenge in it for both parties.
As players we have to try and make it fun, we have a responsibilty to the game.
If you are hanging out with your mates and telling them about how you managed to just catch a blockade runner...or only just managed to escape a blockade. Or you tell them about a battle and how you defeated your oponents through superior tactics or even just firepower. That means you were excited by the game and probably had some fun.
If you're hanging with your mates and they ask you about EVE and you say..."mm ganked some people today"...or..."got ganked today, had no chance". Or you say "well we killed 4 battleships from a rival corp by exploiting a grid bug". You ain't having fun.
The way things stand at the minute...the ball's in the pirates court. They have to resist the urge to gank people...and provide a bit of excitement, and at least give people a slim chance.
If they do this they aren't going to "win" every time, but surely they are big and tough enough to be able to handle the occaisional loss?
As I say, it's a big responsibilty for the pirate players, and to date all they seem to do is go for the quick kicks so it doesn't look too promising. ============================================== "Trust no man who says to you that 'The ends justify the means' or who says that 'We will do whatever it takes...'.
